Friends International: Trip to Portsmouth

Explore key sites around Historic Portsmouth with Friends International & SUSU!


Having travelled to Portsmouth, we will meet outside Portsmouth Harbour Station and then visit the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard museum where we will have a look around the dockyard and have the opportunity to go on board the famous HMS Victory built in 1759, the first iron warship HMS Warrior or visit the Mary Rose Museum, built in 1510 the Mary Rose was Henry VIII's warship that was brought up from the bottom of the sea 40 years ago.


If you would like to visit the Gunwharf Quays Shopping Centre or go up to the top of the Spinnaker Tower (see picture below) you will have the time to do this in the second part fo the day.

Travel: Please meet us in the entrance hall at Southampton Central Train Station at 09:45am (Platform 1, which is on the same side as Tesco Express side). We will then get the 10:05am train to Portsmouth Harbour Station.


If you are travelling from Winchester: You can meet us either at Southampton Central Station to get the 10.05am train for the or outside Portsmouth Harbour Station at 10.55am


Please note that there are two stations in Portsmouth please stay on the train until Portsmouth Harbour Station.


You will be able to return home when you are ready or with the group. Please note that you may need to change trains on the way back to Southampton and Winchester, the direct train is only once an hour.


 


Cost: We will not be collecting any payment before the trip. You can buy your train tickets on the day, or online in advance from thetrainline.com.


If you plan to regularly travel by train, it is worth investing in a Railcard, which will get you a 33% discount on all rail travel. Head to the Railcard website to find out more.


You will need to pay for your train fare to Portsmouth Harbour Station. You will also need to pay for entry into either ship, or it is free if you have a Student Art Pass or English Hertiage Membership.


Entry to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard museum is free with a Student Art Pass If you do not yet have a Student Art Pass, you can buy one for £10. This will be posted to you, so please buy it as soon as possible.


 


What to bring: There are cafes at the Historic Dockyard but we would recommend that you bring food and drink with you. Please wear shoes that are suitable for climbing up and down steep steps!


 


Please book your place so that we know who is coming with us through the Friends International app. If you need to pay the entrace fee to either one or two ships, you can pay on the day or book your ticket in advance on the website. However, if you have a Student Art Pass, entry to the Dockyard and the ships and museums is free! Please remember to bring your Art Pass with you.
