Artificial Intelligence Society

At the University of Southampton AI Society we aim to create a common learning space for people with an interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. We organise talks with professionals from the AI industry and with research staff from well-known institutes, as well as hackathons and workshops.

What do we do?

At the University of Southampton AI Society we aim to create a common learning space for people with an interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. We organise talks with professionals from the AI industry and with research staff from well-known institutes, as well as hackathons and workshops.

How are we structured?

Our society is organized into four divisions: Education, Projects, Partnerships and Marketing. All the divisions collaborate together to achieve the society's goal.

 

  • Education: The Education Division is responsible for all the educational events. They make sure that workshop leaders and invited speakers carry out their work in an ethical and professional manner.  The Education Division is also responsible for the practical organization of workshops and talks (i.e. planning a yearly activities calendar, finding and inviting speakers, booking the needed spaces...). Want to help organizing amazing workshops and talks (even as a speaker)? Join the Education Division. 

 

  • Projects: The Projects Division is the innovative place where theory meets practice. By joining this division you will be able to work on project proposals, become a project lead, take part in exciting practical projects and vote for the best ones. Are you a practical person with notable coding or project management skills? Join the Projects Division.

 

  • Partnerships: The Partnerships Division takes care of the AISoc internal and external relationships, keeping them meaningful and profitable. The Partnerships Division is responsible for developing a Sponsorship Plan, finding sponsors, and regularly keep in touch with them. The Partnerships Division closely works with the Treasurer (for finance-related reasons) and with the Education division (curating relationships with guest speakers).   • Marketing: The Marketing Division takes care of the AISoc brand, making sure that the online and offline presence is coherent and meaningful, in affinity with AISoc purpose and values. The Marketing Division is in charge of regularly creating content (photo, video and digital content) for our social media accounts, posting it, and reporting analytics to the rest of the committee.   • The President of AISoc holds a number of responsibilities, these include but are not limited to: (1) Oversee the running of the Society as the Head of the Committee – this will include delegating duties, overseeing others in their roles and supporting both the committee and the members in their roles too. (2) Set the direction, aims and objectives of the Society after consultation with the Committee. (3) Support the Treasurer in terms of budgeting for the year (4) Act as a Financial signatory, signing off expenditure for the society with the Treasurer. (5) Act as the Society representative to all external and internal agencies.
Philbert Poku
Treasurer
  • The Treasurer is fully responsible for AISoc finances. He/she maintains stewardship for financial assets and debt, including overall leadership of the cash management, debt management and investment management functions (where present) of the society. The Treasurer also develops and manages strategies, operations, policies and budgets relating to treasury activities and directs the development and revision of financial policies.

Secretary
  • The Secretary shall oversee the administration of the Group, take minutes at General Meetings and Meetings of the Committee, and maintain the register.
Karam Sidhu
Welfare Officer
  • The Welfare Officer shall provide welfare pursuits for the Group’s Members, and offer academic advice in conjunction with the course representatives of the Students’ Union.
Mehmet Icen
Hackathon Officer
  • The Hackathon Officer shall be responsible for organising and overseeing Hackathon events, alongside other members of the committee.

Head of Innovation
  • The Head of Marketing is responsible for the Marketing Division. In simple terms, the role consists in taking care of the AISoc brand. The Head of Marketing makes sure that the online and offline presence of USAIS is coherent and meaningful, in affinity with AISoc purpose and values. The Head of Marketing is in charge of regularly creating content (photo, video and digital content) for our social media accounts (full list at: https://linktr.ee/AISoc), posting it, and reporting analytics to the rest of the committee. Where possible, the Head of Marketing should delegate work in the most reasonable way.
Ross Melo
Head of Partnerships
  • The Head of Partnerships is responsible for the Partnerships Division. In simple terms, the role consists in taking care of the AISoc internal and external relationships, keeping them meaningful and profitable. The Head of Partnerships is responsible for developing a Sponsorship Plan, finding sponsors, and regularly keep in touch with them. Alongside his/her own work, the Head of Partnerships closely works with the Treasurer (for finance-related reasons) and with the Education division (curating relationships with guest speakers).
Nithun Sundarrajan
Head of Projects
  • The Head of Projects is responsible for the Research Division. The role consists in overlooking all the projects AISoc is working on, making sure that project leaders carry out their work in an ethical and professional manner. Where possible, the Head of Projects should delegate work in the most reasonable way.
Andre Teixeira Pino
SotonLM Lead
  • The number two in coordinating this year’s project SotonLM. Work very closely with the Head of Projects, making sure the different teams stay occupied and motivated. Help to make this ambitious project come true!
Aditya Kumar
Vice President of Operations
  • The Vice President of Operations plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees all operations activities, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient and cost-effective operations to meet the current and future needs of AISoc. The VP of Operations collaborates with the President to develop and meet AISoc goals while supplying expertise and guidance to all AISoc departments. He/she also presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the President and the rest of the committee.

Membership Information

These are the current membership fees offered by Artificial Intelligence Society, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
