Engineers Without Borders (Southampton)
Looking for enthusiasts from all backgrounds to change the world through engineering projects and outreach. Our mission is to lead a movement that inspires, enables and influences global responsibility through engineering.
As part of Engineers Without Borders, we work with local businesses, other charities and schools as part of outreach and fundraising programs. In addition to this, Engineers Without Borders runs overseas placements in the developing world.
Our approach follows several key principles:
Holistic Engineering - we work with an interdisciplinary approach that takes into consideration the local knowledge, economy, culture and environment.
Active Partnerships - we build long-term relationships and work in collaboration with communities and local organisations
People Participation - we believe in demand-led development and participatory change.
Small Footprint - we want to adopt a sustainable use of natural resources and minimize any impact on the local environment, biodiversity or global climate.
Appropriate Technology - we adapt existing low-risk technology and apply modern engineering methods.
To enhance the outreach and impact of the society, we intend to do collaborative events with other Southampton societies and other EWB Chapters, alongside the promotion of the Engineering Challenges, scheduled EWB UK events and Designathons. EWB Southampton intends to hold outreach and external speaker events with acquired sponsors, partners and employees from EWB UK. Finally, we will host drinking/non-drinking events, and balls in collaboration with other notable engineering societies.

President
- Oversees the running of the entire society, and communicate with the entire committee and SUSU.
Vice President
- Aids the president in their tasks: Oversees the running of the entire society, and communicate with the entire committee and SUSU.
Treasurer
- Manages the financial accounts and grant applications on behalf of the society.
Advisor
- The Outreach Coordinator oversees the running and organisation of internal events. This includes society collaboration events.
Event Representative
- Responsible for organising internal events - i.e. collaborations with other societies
Marketing Lead
- Delegates tasks between themselves and the marketing representative, ensuring all social media aligns with the vision of the society, curated by the President
Marketing Representative
- Responsible for managing the social media profiles, producing all merchandise design, and overall society aesthetic
Outreach Representative
- Responsible for organising internal events - i.e. collaborations with other organisations / charities
Secretary
- Manages the general admin of the society, such as managing accounts with the treasurer, and supporting the president with the risk assessments.
Welfare Secretary
- Look out for the wellbeing of the committee and members in particular at events, and listen and act upon their concerns.
Membership Information
These are the current membership fees offered by Engineers Without Borders (Southampton), although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
