Bar Society
The Bar Society is a student-led legal organisation at the University of Southampton that deals with student exposure to the legal profession and guidance for students looking to pursue a career at the Bar or elsewhere. We aim to give a range of opportunities so that students can decide whether a career in law, particularly at the Bar, is something they wish to pursue. To this end, we provide events designed to improve employability by developing transferrable skills such as public speaking, networking and writing. To do this, we hold regular legal career orientated events such as mooting competitions, networking socials and skills workshops. There is something for everyone at Inns. Whether you are looking for serious professional development or just a friendly bunch with which to socialise - we are the society for you!

Huge congratulations on securing a place at the University of Southampton Law School! This is a massive achievement and a result of all your hard work. On behalf of the Bar Society Committee and all its members, we are delighted to welcome you to the University and into our society.
The Bar Society is student-led. This means we can use our own experiences to shape what route our society takes. This year, we are focusing on demystifying the route to becoming a barrister, as we realise it can sound like a very daunting prospect. Becoming a barrister is a competitive endeavour, so we hope not only to educate you on what steps to take but to help you enhance your CV by offering a variety of events to make your CV stand out above the rest!

| 'From Southampton to the Bar' talk | Come and listen to Southampton alumni who now have a career at the Bar! They'll talk about their time at Southampton, what followed, and what they believe are essential skills for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the legal sphere. |
| Speed Moot Workshop | Prior to the Speed Moot, come join us for all things mooting with a local barrister. |
| Speed Moot Competition | Get your first taste of mooting (presenting a legal argument in court) at our internal competition! The winner receives a cash prize as well as a place in this year's Southampton National Moot against other unis. This competition is also a great way to practice for the compulsory first year moot in the Semester 2 Legal Skills module. |

President
- The President shall oversee the organisation and management of the society and the Committee as a whole; ensuring the officers’ accountability to Members, the Committee, and the Students’ Union; and represent the Group to all external interests.
Treasurer
- The Treasurer shall oversee the financing of the society, set the society's budget, and maintain the accounts of the society.
Welfare and Social Media Officer
- The Welfare and Social Media Officer shall support the welfare of students at society events and ensure events and venues remain a safe and inclusive space for members. They must also oversee important documentation such as the Constitution, Privacy Notice, and Risk Assessments. They will also create and publish posts on both Instagram and LinkedIn promoting the events being ran by the society.
Editor
- The Editor shall write and publish articles submitted by others, for the Bar Society Gazette, to ensure accuracy in content and grammar. They will also liaise with the President regarding planning, potential themes and collaborations and publishing schedule.
Events Co-ordinator
- The Event Coordinator(s) shall work with the Head of Mooting in organising the internal and external mooting events run by the society, namely the Speed Moot competition run in the Autumn term and the Annual National Moot in the Spring term. They will also work with the Vice President in organising other academic events throughout the academic year.

Head of Mooting
- The Head of Mooting shall work with the President and Vice President in overseeing the management of the society and Committee as a whole. They will be responsible for overseeing the Event Co-ordinators as well as reviewing and organising mooting activities and events such as the Speed Moot and National Moot.
Secretary
- The Secretary shall oversee the administration of the society, take minutes at General Meetings and Meetings of the Committee, and maintain the register. It is the responsibility of the Secretary to deal with communications on behalf of the society and its committee.
Vice President
- The Vice President shall work with the President in overseeing the management of the society and Committee as a whole, with a focus on helping to organise the logistics of the society’s main events. They are also in charge of organising non-moot specific events such as socials and other academic activities and talks.
Membership Information
These are the current membership fees offered by Bar Society , although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
