LIVESOC JAM SESSIONS
The purpose of the Jam Sessions is for musicians, or casual observers, to come along and enjoy a relaxed musical environment. We typically perform a range of covers and improvised jams as a group, plus a series of solo performances. Any and all, musical styles and proficiency, are WELCOMED and ENCOURAGED! All equipment necessary for a small band performance will always be made available to anyone who attends the Jam. We also host additional jams every month at Harmony House in collaboration with the Southampton University Jazz Band and Southampton University Jazz Orchestra.

 

LIVESOC GIGS
Going beyond the weekly jams, we also run lots of larger concerts for members. We host large gigs with bands formed at LiveSoc performing songs from all ranges and styles, from Acoustic solo acts to Pop Funk to Heavy Metal. We also run a freshers gig in the beginning of the year to welcome everyone and show support to some excellent local bands, as well as Halloween gigs, Valentines day gigs and many more at venues such as the Hobbit, Suburbia and the Bridge.

 

BANDS
Interested in joining or starting a band? Bands that have formed at LiveSoc and played at our shows have gone on to tour nationally and release music of their own, with the support of our welcoming and diverse community. With the help of our Bands Manager we can get you with some like-minded people playing in the band you've always dreamed of!

 

SOCIALS
We're a community of musicians, but also a welcoming group of close friends. If you're looking to get into the society, our socials are the perfect way to meet the people you'll be jamming and playing with, and have a great time doing it. Our two social secs Alex and Khairah put on regular socials from trips to the arcade to pub golf and house parties (with non-drinking options at all socials too).

 

FUNCTION BAND (available for hire)
In a society committee and planning on running a ball/event? We offer a function band service, customisable to your event! With a flexible, full band available for up to two hours of play time, send us an email at livemusicsociety@soton.ac.uk or directly to Mansa (president) at mc12g23@soton.ac.uk to discuss rates and availability.

 

COLLABORATIVE EVENTS: LiveSoc aims to work closely with the other music, dance and fundraising societies in collaborative events. In December 2024 we collaborated successfully with Southampton Marrow to put on a Tiny Desk style gig at the SUSU's bridge. We also host monthly jam sessions at Harmony House with the Southampton Univeristy Jazz Band and Southampton University Jazz Orchestra, getting a chance to meet others with different music tastes and play different styles of music together. In June 2021 we worked with The Edge magazine to organise and run the Edgetival, a weeklong festival of music to celebrate the end of a Covid-struck year. In 2022 LiveSoc provided bands to be the entertainment during the Southampton Marathon in April and the Summer Festival in June. In 2023 we had a great boom of new bands formed from the society, as well as a Led Zeppelin tribute night celebrating the 50 years of the legendary band playing at our Students Union.

EQUIPMENT HIRE:

LiveSoc is fortunate to be in the position of having its own musical equipment in storage in the Student Union Building. This equipment is readily available for hire at a price per piece per day. Please be warned that it is up to you to find a suitable location/venue and transport it there. To get in contact regarding hiring our equipment, please contact us via our Instagram page or email our equipment manager at bookings.livesoc@soton.ac.uk.
