Philosophy Society

PhilSoc is an active, welcoming academic society for those studying or interested in philosophy. Throughout the year, we organise all kinds of events, including academic talks, charity fundraisers, socials (drinking and non-drinking), staff-student pub quizzes, balls, and a tour.

President
  • The President shall oversee the organisation and management of the Group and the Committee as a whole; ensure the officers’ accountability to Members, the Committee, and the Students’ Union; and represent the Group to all external interests.
Edward Whysall
Treasurer
  • The Treasurer shall oversee the financing of the Group, set the Group's budget, and maintain the accounts of the Group.
Matthew Paine
Welfare Officer
  • The Welfare Officer will provide support to philosophy society students who may be facing hardships. They will be responsible for ensuring that everyone is feeling safe and happy whilst with the society, and will provide contacts to places where further help can be offered if needed.
Erin Powell
Publicity Officer
  • The Publicity Officer shall maintain all of the social media for the society. They will also be responsible for communicating events and general society goings-on with all of the society’s members.
Ava Puttnam
Social Secretary
  • The Social Secretary shall provide social and cultural pursuits for the Group’s Members, such as nights out, trips abroad and other social activities.
Shola Forbes
Tour Secretary
  • The Tour secretary will carry out liason with outside companies, and committee to organise the annual Tour(s). They will arrange the day activities and the overall activities during the tour.
Annah Riviere
Vice President
  • The Vice-President shall oversee the administration of the Group, take minutes at General Meetings and Meetings of the Committee. They will also be responsible for organising guest-lecturer visits, other academic endeavours within the society and supporting the President in their duties.

Membership Information

These are the current membership fees offered by Philosophy Society, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
