Piano Society

About the University of Southampton Piano Society (PianoSoc):We are a friendly society for all people interested in listening to or performing piano of any genre, at any level. We aim to provide an opportunity for student pianists to get together and play what is otherwise typically thought of as a solo instrument. We also offer the opportunity for people to socialise, by doing activities such as card games, movies and quizzes! Overall, we are a casual, social society that aims to help people with the piano as well as have a good time! Many students may not have access to a piano of their own while at Southampton - our weekly jam sessions allow pianists access to a real piano when they might not otherwise get a chance to play. Our jam sessions are not only an opportunity to play the piano but also a space for the discussion and to socialise through a range of activities! Anyone is welcome - even if you've never played the piano before, we encourage you to come listen, chat and participate in games and activities. We also offer introductory sight reading lessons to give beginners the tools needed to start practicing the piano, and we also advise students on where to find pianos so they can practice. Our activities:Weekly jam sessionsEvery Thursday 19:00 to 22:00 in 65/1133 (Avenue Campus), starting from the 24th of SeptemberPlease feel free to join and leave at any point during the sessions.Everyone can perform any piano piece - dropping in to chat or to just listen is fine too! These are informal sessions just for relaxing, practicing and/or performing. We will have events and themed nights, as well as occasional collaborations with other performing arts societies.Group lessonsEvery Thursday 18:00 to 19:00 in 65/1133 (Avenue Campus), starting from the 1st of OctoberWe offer an introduction into sight reading for those who are interested in learning the Piano.Click here for the lesson slidesFinding Pianos:Click here for our introduction presentation which has information on how to book pianos within the University for practice.University Lecture Room Pianos06/107765/113328/101728/101928/1021Pianos in HallsGlen EyreOther PianosSUSU Piano - Building 40, Level 1Faith and Reflection Centre Piano Keyboard - Building 6 (do not use until you have read through the presentation)Social media and contact details:Our main medium for releasing announcements is via email, Instagram, and Discord.
