Southampton Robotics Outreach

SRO is a group of students who are enthusiastic about getting young people involved in Robotics, Computing, Electronics and STEM.

At Southampton Robotics Outreach, we organise robotics events to inspire and promote Engineering and Computer Science. Things we do:

  • Play with, maintain, and design robot hardware/software
  • Run big competitions & events
  • Teach & inspire students interested in STEM

The highlight of our year is the Computing, Electronics and Robotics Summer School in August. It's a 5-day residential robotics course where 16 teams of 6th form students learn how to build and compete a robot all within the week.

We also run workshops for children as young as 8 using a variety of robot types. Things we've done in the past:

  • Teaching children to program autonomous line-following robots at schools, Cubs groups, and the UoS Science and Engineering Day
  • A workshop at the National Scout Rifle Shooting Championships using our summer school demo robots
  • A drop-in robotics stand in Westquay shopping centre

Everyone is welcome in our robotics community. No matter if you’ve never seen a robot, or if you have built a functioning 3D printer; come and join in!

  • The President shall oversee the organisation and management of the Group and the Committee as a whole; ensure the officers’ accountability to Members, the Committee, and the Students’ Union; and represent the Group to all external interests.
Mihai Merlas
Treasurer
  • The Treasurer shall oversee the financing of the Group, set the Group's budget, oversee the acquisition of sponsorship for the Group and maintain the accounts of the Group.
Indigo Nolan
Welfare Officer
  • The Welfare Officer shall oversee the personal welbeing of the Group’s Members, including organising small-scale social events for the Group’s Members and mediating between members where such action is necessary.

  • The Secretary shall oversee the administration of the Group, take minutes at General Meetings and Meetings of the Committee, and maintain the register.

Membership Information

These are the current membership fees offered by Southampton Robotics Outreach, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
