Windsurfing
Southampton University Windsurfing Club is the oldest and most experienced student windsurfing club in the UK. We have one of the largest memberships of any university windsurfing club and provide opportunities for all abilities and backgrounds.
Here at SUWC, we cater for every level of windsurfer, from complete beginners up to international racers and advanced freestylers! The beginners start off at Southampton Sailing Club every other Wednesday as well as any other opportunities they have to get on the water, where they get the chance to progress through the beginner stages with help from our experienced instructors. The intermediates and advanced windsurfers head out across the south coast to a range of locations, from flatwater spots with bump and jump opportunities, to big wave beaches to throw some huge moves! The club owns a container full of kit that members always have access to for their own trips, including 2 foiling boards and a tandem board which any advanced windsurfers are allowed to use at will.
As much as we love to windsurf, we also love a good night out, and have weekly socials every Wednesday night. This can involve anything from a chill pub night to get to know other members, up to huge nights out touring the best of Portswood’s clubs and some crazy house parties. We also have a weekly get-together every Monday evening to discuss the plans for the week and grab a pint in Stags afterwards.
The whole club regularly attend Student Windsurf Association events held all around the country which involve 2 days of windsurfing including races for all levels, a freestyle competition, beginner lessons, and many other activities to entertain all. The hosting city will also take us on 2 nights out which are always unforgettable. The hosts range from Liverpool with some legendary nightlife to our very own event – Sot’on My Face – which will be hosted at Netley Sailing Club! As well as these events, we hope to plan some club trips to places across the south coast, including some national windsurfing events such as the Weymouth Speed Week.

Membership Information
These are the current membership fees offered by Windsurfing, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.

| Year Membership 25/26 | £55.00 | 01/09/2025 - 31/08/2026 | Year Membership provides access to all the activities and events run by the windsurf club for the entire year. This includes weekly socials, beginner tuition and improver coaching, and access to regular organised intermediate and advanced trips including kit and transport. Alongside this by being a member of the Southampton University Windsurf Club you'll be able to get involved in weekend trips away as part of our association with the Student Windsurf Association, getting to visit other cities and windsurf venues for nights out and windsurfing during the day. New this year is the incorporation of wingfoiling equipment for those experienced in windsurf who want to try something new. | |
| Semester 1 Membership 25/26 | £30.00 | 01/09/2025 - 23/01/2026 | Semester 1 Membership provides access to all the activities and events run by the windsurf club for the first semester only (Until the end of the January Exam Period). This includes weekly socials, beginner tuition and improver coaching, and access to regular organised intermediate and advanced trips including kit and transport. Alongside this by being a member of the Southampton University Windsurf Club you'll be able to get involved in weekend trips away as part of our association with the Student Windsurf Association, getting to visit other cities and windsurf venues for nights out and windsurfing during the day. New this year is the incorporation of wingfoiling equipment for those experienced in windsurf who want to try something new. Semester 1 Membership is a great place to start if you aren't sure if windsurfing is for you or you're keen on trying multiple clubs throughout the year, we're always happy to have you. You can always buy a Semester 2 Membership later on if you decide to keep it going. | |
| Trial Membership 25/26 | FREE | 01/09/2025 - 14/10/2025 | This membership is aimed at people keen to get involved in trialing out windsurfing, in particular attending our first few socials before the main membership is required and getting involved in beginner windsurf tuition run on our Wednesday sessions and our taster sessions. It's free so there's no commitment. | |
| Alumni Membership 25/26 | £30.00 | 01/09/2025 - 30/08/2026 | Alumni Membership is aimed to those members of our club who are graduated but seek to still have access to container kit and Student Windsurf Association event signups. This is not a valid membership for current members, if you buy this membership as a current student you will not be given the access requested. SUSU affiliation is needed alongside. |
