Socialist Students Society: Political violence: why is it a thing?

Socialist Students Society
Political violence comes in many forms. Assassinations of public figures have dramatically shifted the course of history and governments. Wars are raging on in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe. State violence has manifested in police brutality, covert operations and state terrorism. But why is it that our purview of political violence is so narrow, given the range of subjects?
Socialist Students aims to discuss the full scope of political violence, and why it comes about. This will include the student protests in France, and various historical examples which people can bring to the table.
The discussion will be a roundtable; feel free to voice your thoughts with respect to others' perspectives.
The Organisers
At the Socialist Students Society, we are a big tent of socialists at the university helping to organise for funding higher education, tenants’ rights for students, and promoting a world beyond capitalism. Together with other groups in Southampton and beyond, we are committed to empowering young people to make a difference in politics. We come from all backgrounds, united in solidarity. Politics isn’t just something which happens to us. Instead, we should make politics happen!
