Welcome to the Beekeeping society!

We are a student-led society that takes care of three hives of honeybees. At peak times, we have over 150,000 members (most of whom are bees), however we usually have 100 human members as well!

During the winter, when our bees are hibernating, we carry out maintenance on the hives, garden in the apiary, run talks about the bees and run chill socials. We will also run our wax social, where we make candles out of beeswax! Throughout the spring and summer, we will perform weekly inspections of the hives, and hopefully extract lots of honey at the end of the season!

While we don't go out drinking or clubbing often, we are still very social and like to host more relaxed events, such as film screenings, board game evenings and coffee/trips to Scoops! We also collaborate with other societies such as Bake Soc, Hookers, Knitters and Stitchers and Wildlife Soc to host bee-themed socials. As well as this, we work to raise awareness of the importance of bees in the ecosystem and collaborate with other sustainability societies to make a positive impact on our local environment.

Members do not need any prior experience of beekeeping: everything will be provided from the training to the bee suits! Everyone is able to visit the hives and see the bees as we carry out inspections to make sure they're healthy and learn about how the hive works. This society is completely free, so there's no reason not to give it a go!

Keep an eye out for our honey in The Locker and The Shop from November onwards!

Sign up to our free membership and follow us on Instagram @subeesoc to be notified about our upcoming events and so you don't miss out on any events.

Feel free to message a committee member, email us at subeekeepingsociety@gmail.com or message our Instagram if you have any questions.

We highly recommend giving a hive visit a go, but if you are unable to (e.g. allergic to bee stings) or you don't want to visit the hives, you can still join in our socials and help with the honey extraction!
