Whether you study a hispan-lusophone language, you are a national from one of their countries or you simply have an interest in the diverse cultures, we welcome anyone and everyone to a world of Latin music, fiestas and fiery passion! Throughout the year you can expect us to be hosting events that will tantalise your taste buds, help you meet fellow learners of Spanish and/or Portuguese, get your feet moving and ultimately a smile on your face! Look out for themed culture nights, film screenings, language cafés, plenty of parties, and possibly even a trip to a secret Iberian destination to be revealed at a later date... If you like the sound of what's above, come and pay us a visit at the Bunfight during freshers week to find out more :) After all, according to the very wise Celia Cruz: "La vida es un carnaval!"   • Ensure everyone is doing what they should be doing. Host committee meetings and discuss the main events that will take place. Be the face of SLAPS and help with every issue that might come about. Make sure everyone is having a good time throughout the year.

Treasurer
  • Responsible for the group's bank account and finances. Budgeting for events and society-related expenses. Keeps track of payments (e.g. tickets and hoodie sales)

Fiesta Secretary
  • Organize "fiestas" and other socials. Help the treasurer with paying venues and ticket pricing. Help organize an annual trip to Portugal/Spain.

Portuguese Representative
  • Represents the Portuguese culture. Takes charge of organizing Portuguese Language Cafés and other Portuguese-related events.

  • Represent Spanish and Latin cultures. Takes charge of organizing Spanish Language Cafés and other Spanish-related events.
Carmen Sanchez Nicolas
Vice President
  • Assist the President with overviewing the society and committee. Responsible for updating social media (Facebook, Instagram, Email). The main organiser of the annual trip to Portugal/Spain over the Easter break and of the Hoodie sale. Secretary role (in the absence of one).

Membership Information

These are the current membership fees offered by Spanish, Latin American and Portuguese Society, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.

Our events are a great way to meet new people, make friends, and experience the food, music, and traditions of Spain, Latin America, and Portugal. We also run a WhatsApp groupchat where you can stay connected with other members and keep up to date with everything that’s happening.
