Southampton University Tennis Club welcomes everyone who is interested in playing tennis and looking for a great social atmosphere! We are one of the largest sports teams on campus and always have room to keep on growing.

SUTC offers an accessible, affordable way to learn tennis as well as regular training, coaching and match play for experienced players. Our 4 membership options provide players of all standards with the opportunity to play tennis in a way that suits them.
Our society offers a fantastic social scene with weekly socials for all members (and their friends!) alongside additional events such as Christmas Ball, Boat Ball, overseas tours, the club tournament (open to all members) and Varsity matches against Portsmouth.
The society’s BUCS squads boast 3 gentlemen’s teams and 2 ladies’ teams which compete against other universities. Last season, our Men 1s secured promotion back into Western Tier 1 going unbeaten last season, they also ended the season winning the Western Conference Cup! The Men 2s and 3s unfortunately were both relegated to Western Tier 3 but are ready to get promoted again this season. Both Ladies teams had a strong season in Western tier 2 league, with the Ladies 1s reaching the western conference cup semi-finals.
Our membership options provide the following:
- Social Membership
- Access to Sunday's social tennis session where we run relaxed drills, games and matches
- Runs at Wide Lane Sports Ground from 13:00 - 16:00.
- Development Membership
- Access to Sunday's social tennis/ match practice
- Plus a weekly beginner/ intermediate session
- Monday Evenings 18:30-21:30 at Wide Lane
- These are split into two 90-minute sessions
- Coached by Raga our LTA level 2 student coach, supported by our development captain Emma
- Plus the development ladder offering weekly singles matches throughout the year
- Performance Membership
- Access to Sunday's social tennis/ match practice
- Plus twice weekly intermediate/advanced sessions
- Thursday evenings 18:00 - 21:30 and Saturday afternoons 14:00 - 17:30 at Wide Lane
- These are split into three 75 minute sessions on both days
- Coached by Paul, our professional LTA level 4 coach, supported by our two performance captains Nerissa and Henry
- Plus the performance ladder offering weekly singles matches throughout the year
- Plus access to the Southampton winter league, playing against local clubs
- BUCS Membership
- Access to Sundays social tennis/match practice
- Plus three high-level coaching/training sessions per week
- Men's sessions are Tuesdays 20:00-21:30, Fridays 19:00-20:30 and Sundays 19:15-20:45
- Ladies sessions are Tuesdays 18:30-20:00, Fridays 20:30-22:00 and Sundays 17:45-19:15
- Two sessions hosted at the excellent indoor facilities at David Lloyd Southampton
- And an additional session at Wide Lane
- Coached by our advanced coach, Candy, along with our BUCS captains Zac, Eva and Christina
- Weekly home or away matches against other universities on Wednesdays in BUCS leagues (home games at David Lloyd)
- Note: You must be selected during our trials for this membership

- Liaise with SUSU in reporting incidents and facilitate proper use of incident report policy.
- Continue relationship with No Limits and spread awareness of their work around the club.
- Organise the annual SUTC charity day at Wide Lane around November.
- Organise Christmas present donations at SUTC Xmas ball.
- Organise at least one more fundraising event (e.g. half marathon).

| Performance Tennis Membership 2026-2027 | £105.00 | 01/09/2026 - 01/07/2027 | Performance memberships are for intermediate players who are looking for regular coaching and some match play. Anyone is welcome to join but we expect players to be able to rally from the baseline, serve and have an understanding of the rules of tennis. A Performance membership provides access to: Sunday's Social tennis/match practice plus two 90 minute intermediate coaching sessions on Thursdays and Saturdays run by our LTA level 4 coach Paul and our Performance Captains. Furthermore, this membership gives players the opportunity to compete in competitive doubles matches against local clubs in Southampton's Winter League. And of course Wednesday Socials! |
